Rich likes to hang out with his friends, play PS2 and watch TV. He especially likes the shows on Comedy Central. Rich smiles a lot and cracks himself up.
The ninth-grader has lived in a group home for 18 months and has been in foster care for many years.
The best thing that has happened to Rich in a long time occurred just this year: the Phillipsburg-Easton football game. Thousands came to cheer on Phillipsburg and thousands came to cheer on Easton in this century-old rivalry. Rich wore a Beat Easton T-shirt and cheered on his players with the crowd. A sophomore, he plans to try out for the team. He’d like to be the quarterback, because then he wouldn’t have to run too much, he says, laughing. Plus he has a good arm.
Rich says he is fun, cool and likes to help people. He hopes to find a family with a nice mom: “Someone who, if you are in a bad position, she would really help you.” Rich knows what family is. Family means people who live together, stand together and fight together.
Someday, Rich hopes to go to college and study engineering, so he can build his own cars.
“But this won’t be the kind of car you know, the kind that goes out on the roads. This will be cars that can fly and can go underwater,” he says, breaking into another laugh.
He tends to be a relatively reserved young man, but is not afraid to let you know where he stands on an issue.
He hopes to find a family, and would benefit from a strong male role model who will respect his strength but honor his vulnerabilities.
