Bio

Kevin has spent 12 years in the foster care system.

He likes basketball and football and is planning on going out for the soccer team at school. When he’s not in school, he and his friends like to go to the park and ride their skateboards.

In school, Kevin enjoys science and history, but especially science.

“You can find out about how so much stuff is made,” he said.

When he’s hanging out at home, Kevin likes to listen to “all types of music,” including Fall Out Boy. He watches music videos and movies based on comic book characters, like Transformers and Spiderman.

But mostly, Kevin is an artist. He loves to draw, and after high school, he wants to go to college and study to be a graphic artist.

“I draw people, cartoons, stuff like that,” he says. “I started drawing when I was 9 or 10. He draws almost exclusively in pencil, but he says he admires the colorful work of Vincent Van Gogh.

“I like Van Gogh’s paintings,” Kevin says. “I like the way he paints swirls.”

If he could travel anywhere in the world, he would go to Japan because he admires so many of the anime artists who live there.

The proudest moment of his Shaquille's life so far was the day he graduated 8th grade.

"Even though I'm in foster care, I still had the courage to make it to high school," he said. "There were other kids who were saying things, putting me down, telling me I couldn't do it, but I didn't listen to them."

Shaquille enjoys lots of activities - swimming, basketball, roller skating, football and bike riding. This past summer, he added another to that list during day camp.

"They called me the King of The Pool Table, because I'm good at it," he said proudly. Shaquille says his brother taught him how to shoot pool, how to aim his shot, how to leave himself in good position for the next one.

Shaquille is the kind of kid who thinks ahead. If he ever had $1 million, he would still keep a job, he said. "That way I wouldn't run out of money," he said.
